Ambition is the strong desire to do or to achieve something, typically requiring determination and hard work. The presence of ambition typically leads to competition. Competition can involve rules of engagement – who is authorized by whom for what tasks. Competition can also involve the exercise of power with or without authorization. These dynamics are all relevant to the development of the nation China which has exercised ambition since the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949.

世界上我们所有人都受到我们这个时代日益复杂和迅速变化的社会制度的影响。 家庭、组织和国家都受到这些复杂性的影响。 战争、流行病、全球经济的相互依存以及气候变化的威胁增加了我们的焦虑。 当一个雄心勃勃、强大的中国在动荡时期在世界事务中发挥越来越大的作用时，这对复杂的全球体系意味着什么？

All of us in the world are affected by the increasingly complex and rapidly changing social systems of our time. Families, organizations, and nations are all affected by these complexities. War, the pandemic, the interdependence of the global economy, and threats of climate change increase our anxiety. What does it mean for a complex global system when an ambitious and powerful China takes an increasingly larger role in world affairs during turbulent times?

Group relations is the study of how unconscious thoughts and feelings significantly impact our lives when we are in groups—from family to workplace to nation. Group relations work has been developing for a decade in China led by several different organizations. This group relations conference - "China and the World” – will be the first bilingual, online, international group relations conference designed to explore the system psychodynamics that occur when Chinese and non-Chinese cultures communicate and interact with each other using both Mandarin and English languages. Using group relations experiential here-and now methodology, the central task of the conference is to learn about the conscious and unconscious dynamics of ambition, competition, power, and authority operating in our shared world.
